2001 Season Highlights

Returned only 4 starters from the 2000 campaign and brought in 11 freshman and 4 other newcomers for the preseason. It was a record-setting year from all sides. The Bobcats finished with a 17-5 record, setting a school record for most wins in a season. Then they captured their first AMCC Championship, earning their first NCAA Tournament berth. Coach Lysik became the first FSU women’s soccer coach to be voted AMCC Coach of the Year.  As the team set records so did several individuals. Senior Amy Foote became the all-time leading scorer, finishing her outstanding career with 48 goals and 118 points, named the AMCC’s Most Valuable Player after posting 17 goals and 9 assists her senior year. Foote also became the first player in program history to earn first-team All-AMCC honors in each of her 4 years. Next, freshman Karen Kotofski made her mark. She set a single-season school records with 21 goals and 49 points. Kotofski was held scoreless for her first six collegiate matches, then exploded with 21 goals in her next 15 contests and was named to the All-AMCC first team for her performance. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Zych also added her name to the record books, she established a single-season school mark with 17 wins and added 9 shutouts, just one shy of another program record.
