1994 Season Summary

1994 Marked the beginning of a new era for Frostburg State University Athletics. Women’s soccer, for years an integral part of the club sports scene at FSU, was elevated to varsity status.

Under the guidance of head coach Ray Kiddy, the Lady Bobcats used a combination of seasoned club veterans and a talented crop of recruits to turn in a most unexpected result: a winning season.

Rare for any sport on any level, the first-year Lady Bobcats went 9-7-1 to lay the foundations for bigger and better things on the horizon.

An 8-0 victory over St. Vincent College (PA) on September 13th, 1994 proved to be the first win for the new program. From that point, the Lady ‘Cats gathered a head of head that resulted in six wins over the next seven contests- hardly atypical for a rookie club.

At one point, FSU’s record stood at 6-2 as the Lady Bobcats out-gunned the opposition 28-11 over the first eight contests. However, like many inexperienced clubs, the Lady Bobcats fell victim to a rash of key injuries that forced a great deal of young players into action.

Needling a pair of wins in the final two games of the season to secure a winning record, the Lady ‘Cats showed their true character by blanking Trinity College and Villa Julie College (3-0 each) to lay claim to a most respectable 9-7-1 campaign.
